Ethics Statement

The goal of Life Media is to publish magazines of the highest quality and integrity. We believe that our credibility is our most precious asset. Credibility is arduously acquired and easily squandered. We therefore expect the highest standards of professionalism from everyone involved with our company. Those standards are outlined here and will be clarified and augmented from time to time. We welcome feedback and suggestions from readers, staff, freelancers and contract workers.

Life Media adheres to a strict division between editorial and advertising. We do not publish advertising disguised as editorial, which is often called advertorial. Nor do we accept articles written or supplied by advertisers. Our advertisers are not wooed with the promise of an accompanying article that praises or explains their product. Editorial staff do not produce articles with the intention of encouraging advertisers to advertise. Occasionally, you might see an ad for a product or service provided by someone who has written an article; you can be assured that the ad was either paid for with no promise of editorial coverage, or was the result of a barter arrangement as a way of remunerating the writer and after the material was accepted by the editor.

Life Media does not make deals in exchange for access to people or companies that might be mentioned in our editorial coverage. When speaking with publicists, for instance, we do not make promises regarding story placement or angle of approach. And we do not pay sources for information.

Life Media receives numerous unsolicited items, such as books, CDs and food, with the intention that we will review or cover these products in some way. Since we do not publish product reviews, we discourage them from being sent. When received, they are, where appropriate and depending on the product, kept for reference, used in the office, donated to charity or placed in the recycling box.

In order to avoid the temptation or perception of influence or bias, we do not accept gifts from or give gifts to news sources, potential news sources, suppliers or advertisers.

We believe that our policy preserves Natural Life's editorial integrity and the perception of it. And that integrity is the most valuable thing we have going for us. I have learned, through more than 30 years of magazine publishing, that thinking readers are skeptical of both editorial and advertising that seem to support each other. On the other hand, when readers trust that our articles are unbiased and not trying to sell them anything, they trust everything in the magazine, including the advertising. That integrity creates a win-win-win situation, which is good for the readers, good for our business, and good for our advertisers' businesses. Rolf Priesnitz, Publisher
